The Sirsa police organised a cyclothon on Saturday to raise awareness among youth about the harmful effects of drugs and promote a drug-free society. Superintendent of Police, Deepak Saharan, flagged off the rally as chief guest and cycled with the participants.
The rally started from Satguru Pratap Singh Stadium in Jiwan Nagar, under the Rania police station area, and covered around 20 km through nine villages, including Sant Nagar, Jagjit Nagar, Damdama, Dharampur, Santokhpura, Harnia, Harnia Khurd and Amritsar Khuh, before concluding at Gurudev Indoor Stadium in Sant Nagar.
Villagers welcomed participants with flowers and garlands at various points along the route. Youngsters raised slogans in support of a drug-free Sirsa and pledged to spread awareness about the ill effects of drugs.
SP Saharan said drugs destroy not only individuals but also families and society. He urged youth to channel their energy into education and sport and called for public participation to achieve a drug-free society. He added that every citizen must help those trapped in addiction return to the mainstream, and the police are extending full support to this effort.
Describing participants as “brave lions”, SP Saharan stressed the vital role of youth in building a drug-free community. He said Sirsa police have already reached 172 villages and 12 wards in Ellenabad, Sirsa and Rania, spreading the message of a drug-free life. He also urged local leaders and villagers to support police efforts by making their areas role models for a drug-free society.
