A nine-member special investigation team (SIT) under the supervision of a DSP-level officer will investigate the bogus billing GST scam of Rs 470 crore.
The Central GST teams and state Excise and Taxation Department unearthed Rs 920 crore (Rs 450 crore by Central team and Rs 470 crore by state team) scam in Panipat eight days ago.
The state Excise and Taxation Department had identified 21 non-existent firms in the city, which had issued fake bills of Rs 470 crore and evaded Rs 49 crore as tax.
On the complaint of the department, the Chandnibagh police registered 21 separate cases against the owners of these non-existent firms on January 6.
The police also sought the support of Excise and Taxation Department officers in the investigation.
Satish Gautam, DSP, City, said, “Sumit Kumar, SP has constituted a special investigation team to investigate the GST scam.”
The SIT comprised two inspector-level officers, two sub-inspectors and four assistant sub-inspectors, which would work under his supervision, he added.
The SIT started investigation into the matter and sought detailed records of the 21 firms from the department, he further said.
