Special anti-extortion cell begins operations in Panipat

Superintendent of Police Bhupender Singh inaugurated a special anti-extortion cell (Special Staff) to ensure priority action in extortion and ransom cases. The Special Anti-Extortion Cell has been established at the police building in Sector 6 to strengthen law and order in the district and curb organised crime more effectively.

DSP Narendra Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, SHOs from various police stations, crime unit in-charges and other police personnel were present on the occasion. Addressing the gathering, SP Singh said ensuring public safety and further strengthening law and order remained the Panipat police’s highest priority. The Anti-Extortion Cell will specifically handle complaints related to extortion, ransom, threats, organised crime and illegal recovery carried out by criminals through phone calls, social media or other means, the SP said.

He said the cell would investigate such cases promptly, impartially and using technical expertise. During the event, SP Bhupender Singh encouraged Anti-Extortion Cell In-charge Sub-Inspector Anil Pawar and his team to work efficiently and issued the necessary directions.

The SP directed officials to treat every complaint seriously, provide victims with prompt relief and take effective action against those involved in organised crime to bring them within the ambit of the law.

He said modern technology, cyber analysis and intelligence networks would be effectively used to maintain continuous surveillance on criminal activities.

SP Singh also appealed to the public to immediately contact the police or the Anti-Extortion Cell without fear if they received any call, message or other threat related to extortion, ransom, intimidation or forced recovery.

“The objective of the Panipat police is to provide citizens with a safe and fear-free environment. The establishment of the Anti-Extortion Cell is an important and effective step in this direction. It will help curb organised crime and further strengthen public trust in the police,” the Superintendent of Police said.
