Karnal, January 12

The special newborn care unit (SNCU) restarted at the Civil Hospital here today after a gap of nine months. The facility, which aims to reduce infant mortality rate, was started by Amrinder Singh, OSD to CM.

The unit was non-functional after the Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital (KCGMCH) was shifted to its new building in April, 2017. The facilities at the unit would be provided free of cost. Civil Surgeon Dr Yogesh Sharma said newborn underweight babies and those suffering from jaundice, respiratory distress would be treated here. — TNS
