vital Has become support centre for specially abled children in the region.
Holy Path Institute of Special Education and Research in Kaithal, being run by a social organisation namely Anhad Education and Health Welfare Society in association with the District Red Cross Society, is transforming the lives of hearing-impaired children by providing them quality education, rehabilitation and vocational opportunities. As per the authorities, it has become a vital support centre for specially abled children in the region.
Currently, 120 speech and hearing-impaired students are enrolled in the institution. To ensure accessibility, the school provides a free pick-and-drop facility through five dedicated vehicles, enabling children from different areas of the district to attend classes regularly.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Aparajita has taken a special interest in the development and welfare of the institution. She said a team of 12 trained and specialised teachers used sign language and modern teaching methods to bridge the communication gap and provided students with an education on par with mainstream schooling. The school currently caters to students up to Class 12 under the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).
In a recent initiative to strengthen vocational training, the DC handed over specialised machines, including equipment for making slippers and cotton wicks, with the support of Lions Club Kaithal Central. The initiative aims to equip students with practical skills that can help them become financially independent.
“Our priority is to ensure that every child, irrespective of physical challenges, gets equal opportunities to grow and succeed. We are committed to providing all possible resources to make them self-reliant,” said DC Aparajita.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, during his tenure as a Member of Parliament from Kurukshetra, had also supported the institution by providing a grant of Rs 5 lakh for the purchase of specialised educational and physical activity equipment. Sharing success stories of the students, Pramod, president of Anhad society, and Gurudev, general secretary, said that disability was no barrier to talent.
Eight students from this school are currently working as computer operators in leading retail and e-commerce companies such as Amazon, Flipkart and Reliance outlets, proving that with the right guidance and opportunities, specially abled children can achieve remarkable success.
Apart from academics and vocational training, students are also excelling in sports. Indraj, a hearing-impaired student, is representing the Haryana-Punjab Deaf Association in cricket. Tinku won a gold medal in the state-level athletic championship, while the school’s karate team recently secured two bronze and five silver medals at the 9th Wado National Karate-Do Championship held in Panipat.
The school authorities have appealed to social organisations and citizens to come forward and extend their support to strengthen the initiatives taken for these special children and help amplify their “voice” in society.
