Information furnished by the state government in response to a Right to Information (RTI) application has revealed that of the 15,21,854 youth registered at employment exchanges in 15 districts during the past about four years, only 647 have got jobs.

Rohtak-based RTI activist Subhash, who is state convener of the Haryana Soochna Adhikar Manch, had sought information about jobless youth registered at employment exchanges in the state from October 1, 2014, to May 20, 2018, and those who got jobs during this period.

“Information furnished is shocking, to say the least. Only 647 of the 15.21 lakh youth registered at employment exchanges in 15 districts got jobs in about four years. Of these, 28 have been employed on contract and 139 are in private jobs,” Subhash said.

He stated that from information received in response to the RTI application, it seemed that generation of jobs was not on the priority list of the government and it has given only assurances to the jobless youth.

Information furnished by government functionaries pertains to Rohtak, Nuh, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Mahendragarh, Ambala, Jind, Faridabad, Palwal, Fatehabad, Sirsa, Yamunanagar, Dadri, Bhiwani and Panchkula districts.

As per the RTI replies, 2.02 lakh youth were registered in Rohtak from October 1, 2014, to Many 20, 2018, but none of them got a job during this period and 10,835 eligible unemployed youth were given unemployment allowance totalling Rs 3.32 crore.

None of the 2.42 lakh youth registered in Karnal got any job during this period. Rohtak is the home district of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Karnal his Assembly constituency.
