  • Uttar Pradesh tops the list with 1,97,546 cases reported from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023
  • Maharashtra was a distant second with 1,25,153 cases reported during the period under review, while Gujarat stood third with 1,21,701 cases
  • The fourth spot was taken by Rajasthan from where 77,769 cases were reported, while Haryana reported 76,736 cases of cyber fraud during the calendar year

In the entire calendar year, a total of 11,28,255 cyber fraud cases were reported across the country. Uttar Pradesh tops the overall list of states, as it reported close to 2 lakh cases of cyber fraud, between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2023.

The number of cyber fraud cases reported from Uttar Pradesh were 1,97,546, according to official data. After Maharashtra and Gujarat, the fourth spot was taken by Rajasthan from where 77,769 cases were reported, while Haryana reported 76,736 cases of cyber fraud during the calendar year 2023.

The high quantum of cyber fraud cases reported from states comes despite the fact that the Centre has set up ‘Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre’ (I4C) to deal with all types of cybercrimes in the country. In fact, it has even formed seven joint cyber coordination teams to deal with such instances in major hotspots of cyber fraud cases in the country, namely Mewat, Jamtara, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Vishakhapatnam and Guwahati under I4C. The Centre has also onboarded states to enhance the coordination framework among their law enforcement agencies, official sources said.

The national cybercrime reporting portal too has been launched as part of the I4C, to enable public to report incidents pertaining to all types of cybercrimes, with special focus on cybercrimes against women and children, they added.
