Haryana to run 500 electric buses in 10 cities: Anil Vij

Transport Minister Anil Vij has said the government has decided to run 500 electric buses in 10 cities in the state. “To achieve a zero-emission public transport system, we have decided to introduce environment-friendly electric buses under the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020 (NEMMP) launched by the Centre," he said.

The state government has decided to run 50 electric buses each under the municipal corporations of Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Karnal, Panipat, Sonepat, Rohtak, Hisar, GMCBL (Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Limited) and FMDA (Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority).

“The operation of electric buses is a significant achievement, as it is a unique project among all states. The city bus service will benefit residents while ensuring zero air and noise pollution. Dedicated bus depots are being constructed in these cities, and 375 buses have been ordered by the government,” he said.

The buses would be equipped with display boards for information on upcoming stops, four CCTV cameras for security, panic button for emergencies, announcement speakers for route updates, and in-built tracking system for real-time monitoring.

"On Republic Day, five electric buses will be included in the local bus service operating between Ambala Cantonment and Ambala City. Currently, 15 mini-buses are being operated by the transport department under the local bus service in Ambala, and five electric buses will now be added to this fleet. The new buses will run on the existing local routes," he added.
