‘Sunday on cycle’ rally held at Kurukshetra University

Kurukshetra University organised a ‘Sunday on cycle’ programme under the nationwide Fit India Movement and Khelo India Campaign in connection with World Bicycle Day celebrations on Sunday.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Som Nath Sachdeva flagged off the cycle rally and called on the youth to adopt cycling as a regular part of life for fuel conservation, better health and a cleaner environment.

Addressing the participants, Prof Sachdeva said adopting a healthy lifestyle had become essential in today’s fast-paced world. He emphasised that cycling was not only beneficial for physical fitness but also played a significant role in environmental conservation by reducing pollution and promoting sustainable mobility.

“Such initiatives infuse positive energy among the youth and inspire society to lead a fit, active and disciplined life,” he said, adding that physical activities are increasingly important in combating stress, unhealthy habits and lifestyle-related disorders.

Registrar Prof Virender Pal described “Sunday on Cycle” as more than just a recreational event, stating that it was a broader campaign connected with public health, environmental awareness and social responsibility.

Dean Students’ Welfare Prof AR Chaudhri said the university regularly organised activities aimed at promoting the physical and mental well-being of students and employees. He noted that the cycling programme was another meaningful step towards encouraging people to integrate fitness into their daily routine.

On the occasion, sports director Prof DS Rana, chief security officer Dr Anand Kumar, KUTA President Dr Jitender Khatkar, along with several faculty members and staff were present.

Similarly, a cycle rally dedicated to energy conservation and environmental awareness was organised from Shaheed Smarak, Kurukshetra. Ex-servicemen and veterans participated in the event.

The main objective of the rally was to spread awareness among the public regarding energy saving, environmental protection and the importance of a clean and green India. DPRO Dr Narendra Singh, who attended the event said through the rally, the ex-servicemen motivated the society to save energy and protect the future.

“Saving energy means saving the future and environmental protection is the responsibility of every citizen. Collective efforts are required to protect the environment and resources,” he said.

Distinguished dignitaries and ex-servicemen present on the occasion included Captain Ashok Kumar, Subedar Major Malkiat Singh, Havaldar Hoshiar Singh, Subedar Ramesh Kumar, and Naib Subedar Mahender Singh Saini.

All participants encouraged society to adopt energy conservation practices and contribute towards building a clean, safe and green environment for future generations.
