Surprise campaign to check industrial pollution in Sonepat
8 teams inspect 60 units; samples sent to Faridabad for analysis
The district administration on Wednesday launched a surprise special inspection drive to curb water pollution in drain number 6 and the Mungeshpur drain, both of which flow through the district and ultimately merge into the Yamuna via the Najafgarh drain.
Eight teams, constituted under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Sushil Kumar Sarwan, conducted inspections at 60 industrial units in a single day. The action follows detailed reports submitted by the Special Environment Surveillance Task Force (SESTF) headed by ADC Lakshit Sareen.
Five officials were deputed by the Member Secretary of the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) to assist in the surprise checking.
Suspecting the discharge of untreated effluents into the drains, the teams collected samples from both inlet and outlet points of effluent treatment plants (ETPs) installed in industries, as well as from sewage treatment plants (STPs).
For effective monitoring, the district was divided into eight zones. Inspections were carried out in industrial areas including Nathupur, Akbarpur Barota, Rathdhana, Bahalgarh Road, Pyau Manyari, Kundli, Murthal, Libaspur, Ram Nagar, Dhaturi, Sanpera, Bhigan, Kami Road, Ladsoli and Kharkhoda.
ADC Lakshit Sareen and Ajay Singh, Regional Officer (RO), HSPCB, also visited several industrial units to assess compliance on the ground.
DC Sushil Sarwan said the primary objective of the drive was to examine industries that were not connected to common effluent treatment plants (CETPs) and were operating in outer zones.
The DC further said a total of 60 inspections had been conducted by all eight teams, and the water samples collected from inlet and outlet points of the effluent and sewage treatment plants had been sent to the HSPCB laboratory in Faridabad for analysis.
The DC also warned that violation of environmental norms in the district would not be tolerated and strict action would be initiated against defaulters.
Ajay Singh, RO, HSPCB, said samples had been dispatched to the laboratory to analyse various parameters.
Appropriate action would be initiated against industrial units if the sample parameters were found exceeding the prescribed limits, the RO maintained.
