The Model Town police on Sunday removed a suspicious CCTV camera installed on a pole near Mukhija Colony on the Jatal road.
Acting on a tip-off, the police began collecting information about the person who installed the solar-operated camera.
The police have started thorough probe to determine whether the CCTV camera was being used to monitor activities of specific persons and was it installed with criminal intent.
Model Town SHO Jagminder said a camera was found installed on a pole under suspicious circumstances on the Jatal road near Mukhija Colony. The camera had been seized and it would be sent to the forensic laboratory at Madhuban, the SHO said. A case has been registered against unknown persons under Section 152 and 61 of the BNS.
Interestingly, two such CCTV cameras were found installed in Sonepat last month. One camera was found fixed on a pole at the Sonepat railway station while another was located at the backside of the bus stand.
Earlier, the Ghaziabad police had busted a six-member gang, which identified the camera installed at the Sonepat railway station. The matter came to light after the Kaushambi police arrested the accused while installing solar-powered cameras on sensitive spots in the NCR. The footage was reportedly being shared with the ISI.
