Tech varsity students, faculty clean Mimarpur Ghat of Yamuna river

On the occasion of Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram’s birth anniversary, students, staff and faculty members of Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology (DCRUST) participated in a special cleanliness drive at Mimarpur Ghat on the Yamuna river.

The event was graced by Dr Yogender Malik, former OSD to the Chief Minister’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ (BBBP) campaign and social thinker Rajesh Goyal as the chief guest. The programme was presided over by the vice-chancellor, Prof Shri Prakash Singh, with Dr Ashwani Khasa attending as the special guest.

Dr Yogender Malik said DCRUST’s mission goes beyond producing scientists and engineers; it aims to nurture good human beings. He stressed the importance of understanding different communities and their mentalities, adding preserving water is a shared responsibility, especially as the region is deeply connected to the Yamuna river.

Rajesh Goyal echoed the sentiment, stating the key difference between humans and animals lies in our ability to reflect on what is right and wrong. He noted the Yamuna is integral to life in Haryana, and cleaning the river is a duty we owe to “Mother Yamuna.”

The vice-chancellor, Prof Shri Prakash Singh emphasised the ancient cultural teachings that advocate for the conservation of water and nature. Quoting the Rigveda, he said, “O water, you are the basis of happiness, you store food to give us great strength; keep us fragrant for pure and delightful self-knowledge.” He reminded attendees water is a priceless gift from nature, urging everyone to contribute to the success of the cleanliness campaign.

D Ajay Kumar Garg, registrar of DCRUST, also addressed the gathering, reinforcing the importance of preserving water resources for the generations to come.
