Six persons were killed and four injured in two separate accidents in the past 24 hours.

Four members of a family from Shimla were killed and two, including their driver, were seriously injured when a truck rammed into their car near Karnal’s Bastara toll plaza on Friday evening. The truck driver fled leaving behind the vehicle.

The deceased have been identified as Sarita (50), Shivani (46), her son Sanatan (14) and Kovind, while the injured are Maridula and car driver Ismile. Their condition is said to be critical. The family was returning to Shimla from Delhi. Their car was in queue at the toll plaza when a truck rammed into it from behind and it collided with another truck in front of it.

The truck driver has been booked for negligent driving and the deceased’s family members have been informed, Madhuban SHO Tarshem Singh said.

In the second mishap, two men riding a bike died and two others riding another bike alongside them were injured in a hit-and-run near Sohna. An FIR has been registered at the Sohna City police station on the complaint of an eyewitness.

Ranjit Singh of Indri village told the police that he was driving home in his car around 7.20 pm when a speeding vehicle hit two bikes near Bala Ji Dhaba at Chungi No. 1 in Sohna and sped away. Ranjit stopped his car and found Raban and Krishan lying lifeless and Mohit and Neeraj seriously injured. Along with some commuters, they were taken to hospital.

An FIR has been registered against an unknown vehicle driver under sections 279 (rash driving), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 304A (causing death by negligence) of IPC at the Sohna City police station.
