Three nabbed on charges of blackmail in Narwana

The Jind police have arrested three persons in a case of extortion from an accused, Dharmender, who was facing a case of assault and was booked under the SC/ST Act in Narwana town of Jind district today.

Demanded Rs 1 lakh for disposing of case

  • The accused had demanded Rs 1lakh in lieu of disposing of the criminal case registered against Dharmender, a resident of Chopra Patti in Narwana subdivision.
  • The SDM formed a team headed by Duty Magistrate Tehsildar Vijay Kumar and laid a trap to nab the persons who were trying to blackmail and extort money from Dharmender.
  • The accused had already taken Rs 50K in two instalments. They were demanding another Rs 50K

The accused had demanded Rs one lakh in lieu of disposing of the criminal case registered against Dharmender, a resident of Chopra Patti in Narwana subdivision.

The police said Dharmender complained to the SDM, Narwana, about the demand of the persons identified as Praveen, Rajender and Vicky, who were trying to extort money from him on the pretext of withdrawal of the criminal case. The SDM formed a team headed by Duty Magistrate Tehsildar Vijay Kumar and laid a trap to nab the persons who were trying to blackmail and extort Dharmender.

Dharmender alleged that the accused had already taken Rs 50,000 in two instalments. They were demanding another Rs 50,000 and threatened to get him convicted in the court in the criminal case if the money was not given to them, said the complainant.

The police team reached the court complex in Narwana where the accused had asked the complainant to handover the money to them. As the complainant handed over the cash to them, the police raided the spot and recovered the money from them. The accused were nabbed from the spot. The Narwana police station incharge, Ram Niwas, said the police had started investigation in the case.
