Three suffocate to death in sewer tank

Sonepat, May 1

Three labourers were killed on Wednesday after inhaling poisonous gas while cleaning a sewer tank at a private banquet hall in Sidharth Enclave on the Sonepat-Bahalgarh road here.

They were identified as Pandu (46), his son Vinay (18) and their neighbour Deepak (32). Pandu entered the tank, but did not return.

Deepak went inside the tank to check about Pandu, but did not return. After that, Vinay went in and met with the same fate.

Police and firefighting teams reached the spot. The bodies were retrieved after around two and a half hours. The bodies were sent to the civil hospital for postmortem examination.

Sadar SHO Vazir Singh said the victims did not have safety equipment. Municipal Commissioner Sujan Singh said the deceased were not employees of the civic body. — OC
