As part of this drive, the MCYJ has developed the ‘Yamunanagar Swachhata Heroes App’ to raise public awareness about cleanliness, waste segregation and related civic issues.

The app was formally launched by MLA Ghanshyam Dass Arora and Mayor Suman Bahamani in the presence of Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Parsad and Additional Municipal Commissioner Dheeraj Kumar.

The app aims to promote cleanliness among citizens through an engaging and interactive approach.

Through the platform, residents will be encouraged to segregate wet and dry waste, ensuring effective door-to-door waste segregation. This initiative is expected to improve waste disposal mechanisms and strengthen the city’s overall sanitation system.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Dheeraj Kumar provided a detailed overview of the app to the MLA and the Mayor, stating that it would serve as a powerful tool to transform cleanliness practices in Yamunanagar.

“The app has been specifically designed for youth and children to inculcate hygienic habits in a playful manner. It functions like a game. In the first round, users are provided with separate dustbins for wet and dry waste. Points are awarded for correctly segregating waste and higher scores lead to better rankings,” he said. He added that in the next phase, users will be able to upload photographs showcasing cleanliness or instances of littering.

“Users can also generate e-challans for littering, which will make the e-challan system more effective,” the Additional Municipal Commissioner said.

Citizens achieving the highest scores on the app will be honoured by the Municipal Corporation. The app also features awareness messages, activities and information related to cleanliness to encourage greater public participation.

Under the ‘Clean House’ category, the Municipal Corporation will select households across different wards of the twin cities that fully comply with cleanliness standards.

“These selected households will be felicitated by the MCYJ. This initiative will foster healthy competition among residents and motivate them to keep their homes, streets and neighbourhoods clean,” he said. Mayor Suman Bahamani said the initiative would help instil a greater sense of responsibility and awareness about cleanliness among citizens.

MLA Ghanshyam Dass Arora also praised the initiative, stating that cleanliness is the hallmark of a healthy and beautiful city. Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Parsad urged citizens to actively use the app, become “Swachhta Heroes,” and contribute towards making Yamunanagar and Jagadhri cleaner and more beautiful cities.
