The Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MC), will establish three Material Recovery Facility centres at Shadipur village, Kail village and Gulab Nagar colony to strengthen the solid waste management system in the twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri.
At these centres, dry and wet waste will be segregated. Wet waste will be transported to a biogas plant, while the remaining waste will be sent to the Solid Waste Management Plant. This was stated during a review meeting chaired by Yamunanagar MLA Ghanshyam Dass Arora at the MC office here.
During the meeting, Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Parsad and Additional Municipal Commissioner Dheeraj Kumar said each centre would have a 10.5-metre-high boundary wall. A 10-metre-wide green belt will also be developed outside the premises to minimise environmental impact.
The meeting was attended by officials from the MC, Public Works Department, Irrigation Department and Public Health Engineering Department.
MLA Arora, along with Mayor Suman Bahamani, reviewed the progress of various ongoing and proposed development works in the city. Issues related to sanitation, sewerage, stormwater drainage, road repairs, park beautification and other civic amenities were discussed in detail.
Key projects reviewed included the Riverfront along the Western Yamuna Canal, Hamida Head Park, development of parks, drainage works in Shadipur village, construction of a drain on Khajuri road, the IPS project at Badhi Majra, lighting on the Badhi Majra bridge, development of the Dussehra ground, construction of a side berm from Vishwakarma Chowk to Maharana Pratap Chowk, a new Municipal Corporation office building and a proposed stormwater drain.
The Municipal Commissioner said a tender worth Rs 10.35 crore had already been awarded for the Riverfront project and that the foundation stone would be laid shortly. He added that work on Hamida Head Park had commenced and a major recreational facility would be developed in the coming months.
On drainage works, he said the MC had completed the laying of a stormwater pipeline, while work pending under the railway line was awaiting clearance from railway authorities. An estimate of Rs 1.88 crore has been prepared for the Khajuri road drain and for sewerage works in Shadipur and adjoining areas.
MLA Arora directed officials to expedite all development works, particularly those related to sewerage, drainage and road repairs and stressed that quality must not be compromised under any circumstances. Mayor Suman Bahamani also emphasised timely completion of projects and urged officials to ensure prompt redress of public grievances.
