Faridabad, October 27
The police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested both the accused in the murder of a 21-year-old girl student of Aggarwal College at Ballabgarh town here.
Both the accused have been sent to two days police remand.
Revealing that the main accused, identified as Tausif (22), and Rehan (21) his associate were nabbed after about five and half hours of intensive combing and hunt operation launched soon after the incident, OP Singh, Commissioner of Police (CP) here said that while Tausif was arrested from Sohna, his hometown, Rehan was also taken into custody this morning on basis of inputs.
He said ten teams of the police, including the officials of the crime branch, had been on the chase soon after the incident.
Claiming that a strict punishment was in the offing for the accused, he said an SIT headed by an ACP level officer has been set up for speedy trial and conviction of the culprits.
The culprits had been booked earlier also in a case of kidnapping (Section 365 IPC) in 2018 in response to a complaint by the family against Tausif, ACP Crime Anil Kumar said that the family had withdrawn the complaint later after a compromise.
Mool Chand Tomar, father of the girl, who is an employee in a private company here, also said that the complaint lodged two years ago was withdrawn under the social pressure as it was related to the future of his daughter and he did not want any further trouble on the issue.
However, the incident sparked protest and demonstration by the local residents and various right wing activists, who have demanded death penalty for the culprits claiming that it was a case of ‘Love Jihad’, in which innocent girls from the majority community were forced to convert to minority community after a marriage or affair.
Hundreds of local residents and activists related to various political and non political organisations assembled at Ballabgarh Sohna road this noon resulting in blocking the movement of the traffic.
Though a large number of cops were also deputed to avert any untoward incident, the blockade was lifted around 4.30 pm.
Protests were also held in civil hospital premises and the college where the incident took place.
It is revealed that Tausif was known to the girl since the school days, when she was one class junior to him. Tausif who is presently pursuing physiotherapy course from Gurugram got offended recently when Nikita had stopped taking his calls, it is claimed.
As he came to know that she had come to the college to appear in the sixth semester exams of the B.Com (Hons) course on Monday, he reached along with his friend in a car around 4 pm and tried to kidnap her again, as soon she came out of the college building.
But as the girl resisted, the jilted lover opened fire and she died before she was rushed to the hospital.
A CCTV footage of the incident went viral on social media. Alleging that it was a case of Love Jihad, a member of the local unit of Hindu Sena, claimed that the accused was forcing Nikita to convert to Islam, but when she refused, he shot her dead.
Alleging poor cooperation from the authorities, Vinay, elder brother of the victim, said had the police taken it seriously enough the incident could have been avoided.
Claiming that Nikita was a brilliant student and the incident has left the college fraternity shocked, KK Gupta, Principal, Aggarwal College, said that no cop had been posted at the college gate despite an application submitted to the police department recently in view of the exams.
