The police have arrested two persons, including a reporter with a Hindi paper on charges of extortion on the complaint of Abhimanyu, a personal assistant (PA) of the Haryana Chief Minister, in Hansi town of the district on Sunday.

The accused were identified as Mahesh Arora, associated with a paper published from Hisar, and a woman, Radhika Garg, both residents of Hansi town.

Police spokesperson Subhash Chander said that Abhimanyu, a resident of Palra village in Jhajjar district and PA of the CM, was contacted by his relative Devender. Devender informed Abhimanyu that he had got a tip-off that two persons were hatching a conspiracy against him.

Abhimanyu submitted a complaint via Devender with the Hansi police that he did not know the two persons who were trying to spoil his image.

The police spokesperson said that the complainant stated that the duo was threatening to implicate him in a criminal case and demanding Rs 14 lakh from him.

Acting on the complaint by Abhimanyu, a police team laid a trap. The duo was asked by Devender to reach a factory on the outskirts of the town.

As Devender gave Rs 1 lakh to the accused, the police raided the spot and recovered the bag containing the money from the accused. The police registered a case under Section 384 (extortion), 388 (extortion by threat of accusation of an offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life etc), 120 B and 34 IPC against the miscreants. The police spokesperson said that the duo was produced in court which sent them to judicial custody for 14 days.
