Two-day science conclave begins at Kurushetra University

A two-day Science Conclave on the theme “Empowering lives with science and technology: A quantum leap into a sustainable future” was inaugurated on Thursday at Kurukshetra University.

The programme is being organised by Kurukshetra University in collaboration with the Haryana State Council for Science, Innovation and Technology, with the objective of inculcating scientific temper among school and college students across the state.

In his presidential address, Som Nath Sachdeva, Vice-Chancellor, Kurukshetra University, highlighted the transformative power of science and urged the students to nurture curiosity, critical thinking and creativity, citing C V Raman and Thomas Edison as exemplars of perseverance and innovation.

Highlighting India’s rich scientific and economic heritage, Sachdeva, citing economist Angus Maddison, further said India was once again moving towards global leadership with advancements such as Chandrayaan-3, Gaganyaan, the UPI digital payment system, digitalisation and improved healthcare.

The Chief Guest, Prof Deepti Dharmani, Vice-Chancellor, Chaudhary Bansi Lal University, Bhiwani, stressed the importance of unfailing consciousness, goodness, righteousness, victory, and glory in the pursuit of scientific knowledge. She underlined that ethical values must guide scientific progress to ensure inclusive and sustainable growth.

In the technical session, Dr Arvind Kumar, a professor and theoretical quantum physicist from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research ,Mohali, delivered a lecture on “Emergence of quantum science and technology: A story of 100 years.” He traced the historical development of quantum science and explained the significance of the third quantum revolution.

Prof GP Dubey, convener of the conclave, informed that nearly 3,000 students from schools and colleges across Haryana are participating in the event.

Deputy Director, Public Relations, Dr Jimmy Sharma said the post-lunch session featured Dr Jaswinder Singh, Shiksha Ratan, Patiala, who captivated students through live science demonstrations showcasing science-in-action experiments. A model exhibition by school students and displays by the Science Panorama emerged as major attractions of the conclave. The day concluded with various activities and competitions, including poster presentations, Visual Sparks, and a science quiz.
