Haryana Cabinet Minister Anil Vij has released Rs 50 lakh from his discretionary fund to the Municipal Council, Ambala Sadar, for the construction of two lawn tennis courts in Ambala Cantonment.
Vij said Ambala Cantonment, which already has a distinct identity in sports, would soon have a new destination for lawn tennis players and enthusiasts. The two ultra-modern synthetic turf courts will be developed within the Ambala Club premises, adjacent to the War Heroes Memorial Stadium.
He said that the project would provide players with improved facilities and create opportunities to host competitions in the future. The courts will be developed as per modern standards and equipped with high-mast LED floodlights to enable day-and-night matches, offering relief during the summer months.
He said, instead of traditional clay, a synthetic turf surface would be laid, which is safer for players’ knees and ensures proper ball bounce. Adequate seating arrangements for spectators and sports staff will also be provided to encourage players during matches.
Vij said the facility would offer talented youth from all sections of society an affordable and professional platform. He added that the project would promote health and fitness and help nurture future tennis talent in Haryana.
