Karnal, October 19
High-pitched campaigning for Assembly elections came to an end on Saturday evening, with BJP candidate and Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and his Congress rival Trilochan Singh holding roadshows to give a final push to their campaigns in the Karnal segment.
The Congress candidate accused the BJP government of ignoring development. After his roadshow, Khattar exhorted residents to vote for the BJP to retain the status of Chief Minister’s city. “Karnal has the tag of CM’s city and I urge you to ensure it retains this tag,” he said.
“I am confident of victory from more than 75 seats as we have done intensive campaigning in all 90 seats. The Congress and other Opposition parties did not campaign like us. We will win at more than 75 seats,” he said.
Khattar exhorted people to approach to their relatives and friends in other parts of the state to cast their votes in favour of the BJP. He assured members of the Ravidasia community that a grand temple would be constructed by the Union government at Tughlakabad in Delhi, where a 15th-century Guru Ravidas temple was demolished.
State Congress president Kumari Selja addressed a public gathering in Nilokheri in favour of Banta Ram Valmiki. She accused the BJP of not fulfilling promises made during the last elections.
BJP nominee from Gharaunda Harvinder Kalyan’s wife Reshma Kalyan and daughter Ayeshna Kalyan, along with women wing of the BJP, took out a march in Rajivpuram.
In Indri, Independent candidate and Congress rebel Rakesh Kamboj and Congress candidate Navjot Kashyap took out roadshows.
In Assandh, Congress candidate Shamsher Singh Gogi, BJP nominee Bakhshish Singh Virk, Independent candidates Sanjay Mehla and Jile Ram Sharma and JJP nominee Brij Sharma went all out to garner support on the last day of campaigning.
