Chandigarh, July 20

A 21-year-old woman, who was promised a job at a farmhouse, was allegedly raped by around 40 persons, including “two cops”, at a hotel in Morni, Panchkula district.

The UT police registered a case and arrested two accused after the Panchkula police refused to lodge the victim’s complaint. Facing flak, the Panchkula police on Friday formed a special investigation team and suspended three cops.

The victim’s husband, a labourer, claimed he had recently come in contact with accused Sunil, alias Sunny, who “owned a farmhouse in Morni and offered a job of dishwasher at a salary of Rs 12,000” to his wife.

The victim left for Morni with Sunil on July 15. The accused, instead of taking her to the farmhouse, allegedly took her to Lovely Guest House in Morni. There, he allegedly gave her sedatives after which she was raped by around 10 persons, including Sunil. The ordeal, the victim alleged, continued for the  next three days and she was raped by around 10 persons every day. The victim told the police that she managed to escape on July 18.

In her statement, the victim claimed that she, along with her husband, went to the women police station in Sector 5, Panchkula, but the police refused to register her complaint and instead asked her to report the matter to the Mani Majra police.

The victim’s medical examination was conducted and her statement recorded under Section 164 of CrPC.

DSP (East) Satish Kumar said, “Sunil, a native of Haryana, who operates the hotel, and Avtar, a native of Madhya Pradesh, a manager there, were arrested.” They were produced in the court on Friday, which remanded them in judicial custody.

The victim alleged among the accused were two cops who threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed the matter. Sources said the victim was in trauma  when she approached the UT police. — TNS
