The victim, Naseeb Kumar, had been missing since March 2 and his body is yet to be recovered.
According to DSP Jai Bhagwan, a missing person report was filed on March 3 by Naseeb’s relative, Raghunath Kumar. During the investigation, suspicion fell on Naseeb’s wife, Pooja, and her friend, Shravan Kumar. Both were called in for questioning, where they reportedly confessed to strangling Naseeb and throwing his body into a canal.
Police said Naseeb, a resident of Jakhal, had married Pooja 25 years ago. The couple had three children and lived with Naseeb’s mother. Naseeb, a daily-wage labourer, allegedly used to assault Pooja under the influence of alcohol. He also threatened to upload videos of the abuse on social media.
The DSP said Pooja and Shravan, who lived near Naseeb’s house in Vyasa Colony, had developed an extramarital relationship. On the night of the murder, they allegedly gave Naseeb sedative pills and strangled him while he was asleep.
“The accused bound the body with stones and threw it into Bhakra Canal to destroy evidence,” DSP Jai Bhagwan said. A special police team recovered technical evidence indicating that the case was not merely a missing person’s matter but a murder. Both accused have been remanded in police custody for further investigation and recovery of evidence.
