Woman found murdered; rape suspected

Yamunanagar, February 21

The half-naked body of a woman was found in the sugarcane fields in Urjani village on Wednesday. The identity of the victim, who was in her 40s, is yet to be ascertained.

According to preliminary findings, the woman was allegedly sexually assaulted before being killed.

On the complaint of farmer Gurdyal Singh of Sherpur village, a case has been registered against an unknown person under Sections 302 (murder) and 376 (rape) of the IPC.

The complainant said he was informed by a resident of Urjani village that the body of a woman was lying in his fields. He, along with sarpanch of Urjani village Ajmer Singh, reached the spot. The complainant said a dupatta was lying near the body.

The body has been kept at the mortuary of the Civil Hospital, Jagadhri. A post-mortem examination will be conducted after ascertaining the woman’s identity. —TNS
