Woman mistakes hospital patient for husband’s girlfriend, throws toilet cleaner at her in Gurugram
Case of acid attack registered at Sector-10A police station
Police in Gurugram have arrested a 25-year-old woman for allegedly throwing toilet cleaner on a 30-year-old woman in a case of mistaken identity at a government hospital. The accused had reportedly mistaken the victim for her husband’s girlfriend.
According to police, the incident came to light on Sunday night when Haryana Police at the Sector-10A Police Station received information from Civil Hospital Sector-10 that a woman had arrived with injuries after a suspected acid attack.
A police team reached the hospital and obtained the victim’s medical report. After doctors declared the woman fit to give a statement, her statement was recorded.
The victim told police that she had been living with a man named Pawan in a flat in Sector-72. On Sunday, she was allegedly assaulted by Pawan and had come to the hospital for treatment. While she was there, another woman allegedly threw an acid-like liquid at her, damaging her clothes.
Police registered a case of acid attack at Sector-10A police station, while a separate case of assault was registered against Pawan at Badshahpur Police Station.
Doctors provided primary treatment to the victim and referred her to PGI Rohtak. However, she was discharged after examination as the liquid had mostly fallen on her clothes and dupatta.
Police on Monday arrested the accused, identified as Sakshi (25), a resident of Patuhera village in Bawal of Rewari district, from Gurugram.
During preliminary questioning, Sakshi told police that she had a dispute with Meenakshi, who is a friend of her husband. Believing Meenakshi was present at the hospital, she allegedly identified her by the colour of her dupatta and threw toilet cleaner without seeing her face. However, she ended up attacking another woman by mistake.
The accused has been taken into custody and further investigation is under way.
