Rajinder Singh, SHO, city police station, Jagadhri, said the police received information on February 26 that a partially-unclothed dead body was lying in a house at Amar Vihar Colony in Jagadhri. He said the body bore multiple injury marks.

He further said the deceased was identified as Gunjan, a resident of Gonda district, Uttar Pradesh, presently residing in Jagadhri. The SHO said the victim used to run a fast-food cart and had been living in a rented accommodation in Amar Vihar Colony of Jagadhri with Sushma (50), alias Rani, of Uttar Pradesh, his live-in partner for some years. Sushma’s son Akash (25) had also been staying with them for the last two months, he said.

On the day of the incident, the house was found in disarray and both Sushma and Akash were missing, he said. After recovering the body, the police registered a murder case, the SHO said. Both accused were arrested after tracing their location, he said.

“During interrogation, Sushma revealed that frequent quarrels between Gunjan and her son over his (Gunjan) drinking habit led to his murder,” the SHO said. Sushma and her son Akash stabbed Gunjan multiple times before strangling him to death, he said.

The murder took place on the intervening night of February 25 and 26, the SHO said.

Chamkaur Singh, a police spokesman, said the accused were produced before court in Jagadhri on Thursday, which sent Sushma to judicial custody and Akash to three-day police remand.
