The municipal corporation authorities will develop two parking lots to solve the problem of traffic congestion on the busy Old Radaur road of Yamunanagar city. They have identified two sites near the railway crossing to develop the parking lots.

Mayor Madan Chauhan along with municipal corporation officials, including executive officer Deepak Sura and chief sanitary inspector Anil Nain, on Saturday visited the Old Radaur road and the sites where the parking lots would be developed.

During his visit, the mayor asked the shopkeepers to clear the encroachments from the by Monday.

“If the shopkeepers fail to remove the encroachment within stipulated time, the municipal corporation will be forced to seize the goods displayed on pavements,” said Chauhan.

The Old Radaur road, which covers about one kilometre, is lined with wholesale suppliers and grocery godowns. The road is used by trucks and other vehicles for unloading goods, causing a traffic jam all the time.

The traffic problem is being caused due to the wholesale suppliers, which see a large number of customers but have no parking facility.

Shopkeepers and customers park their vehicles haphazardly, causing inconvenience to residents of the area and commuters.

A local resident said the shopkeepers had not only taken over the pavement but also the road.

“To ensure the free flow of traffic, we are going to make this stretch a no-parking zone. No vehicle will be allowed to stop here. This road connects a large area of Yamunanagar city and sees huge traffic every day,” said Chauhan.
