Yamunanagar, March 13

Residents of five colonies here have decided to boycott the Lok Sabha elections as the Public Health Engineering Department have failed to solve their problem of drinking water.

The residents of Rampura Colony, Green Park Phase I and Phase II, Hardev Colony and Kalandi Colony held a meeting under the banner of Green Park Welfare Society in Green Park Phase II on Tuesday.

Devender Mehta, president of the society, said there were three tubewells to supply water in the five colonies. But, one of the tubewells had been non-functional for about a year.

“Two tubewells are not sufficient to cater to the demand for water in the five colonies. The pressure of water is very low,” said Mehta.

He said the department had installed a tubewell about three months ago, replacing the non-functional one but it had so far not been made functional.

“If our problem of drinking water is not solved within 15 days, we will put up banners and posters in these colonies with the message Paani nahi, toh vote bhi nahi,” Mehta said.

Palvinder Singh, Junior Engineer, Public Health Engineering Department, said they had applied for electricity connection to make the new tubewell functional.

“We are making efforts to make the new tubewell functional soon,” the Junior Engineer said.
