Season’s target

We have set a target to crush 160 lakh quintal of sugarcane this season.

With an area of 85,000 acres, Yamunanagar district is considered to be the hub of sugarcane crop in Haryana. As many as 20,000 sugarcane farmers belonging to 672 villages of Yamunanagar, Ambala and Kurukshetra districts are associated with Saraswati Sugar Mills.

“We have set a target to crush 160 lakh quintal of sugarcane this season,” said DP Singh, senior vice-president (cane), Saraswati Sugar Mills.

It’s a relief for farmers because now they will able to sow wheat after harvesting their sugarcane crop. “A majority of the farmers have small landholdings in the district and they sow the wheat crop after harvesting sugarcane,” said Satish Kumar, a farmer of Marwa village.

Meanwhile, the rate of early variety of sugarcane has been increased by the state government to Rs 350 per quintal this year from Rs 340 per quintal in 2019.

Similarly, the rate of mid variety has been raised to Rs 345 this year from Rs 335 per quintal last year and that of late variety to Rs 340 per quintal than Rs 330. — TNS
