Young couple dies after jumping before train in Jhajjar

Police say reason behind extreme step yet to be ascertained

A young married couple reportedly died after jumping before a moving train between Gudha and Jaundhi villages on Rohtak Road in Jhajjar district on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Sunil and Himanshi. The exact reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained.

Karambir, a railway gatekeeper, said the couple had arrived at the spot on a motorcycle and stood near it for some time.

“The gate was closed, awaiting the arrival of the train. As the train approached, they suddenly lay down on the railway track, clinging to each other. They died on the spot,” he added.

After receiving information about the incident, personnel from the Government Railway Police reached the spot and began an investigation.

A forensic team was also called to the site, and some samples were collected as part of the probe.

Later, the bodies were shifted to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police said further investigation into the incident was underway at the time of filing the report.
