Youth dies in jail in Jind, family alleges police atrocity

Hisar, April 18

A youth, who was arrested in a case registered under the NDPS Act, died at jail in Jind today. The victim has been identified as Pappi, 30, a resident of Ward No. 4 in Julana town of the district. The police had arrested Pappi on April 13 and recovered 580 gm of banned narcotics from his possession.

His family members alleged that he died of injuries due to police excesses and thrashing in the custody. They alleged that the victim had injury marks over his body.

A police official said the accused was sent to jail on April 15. The accused was taken to the PGIMER, Rohtak, after his condition deteriorated due to some ailment on April 17 where he died today, the police official added.

The reason behind the death would be established only after the arrival of the post mortem examination, the police official said.
