A District Additional And Sessions Court sentenced a youth to 20 years rigorous imprisonment for sodomising a nine-year-old boy in 2023 and imposed a total fine of Rs 75,000, while in another incident, a man was booked on charges of raping a 13-year-old girl in a village under the Lakhan Majra police station.

The Bahu Akbarpur Police registered a case against a youth on 20 July 2023 for the sexual assault of a 9-year-old boy.

The victim's father reported that his son had been visibly distressed for several days. On July 19, the child revealed that the accused who had been residing at his aunt's house at the village had repeatedly assaulted him over the past year. The most recent incident occurred on June 10, accompanied by death threats to ensure silence.

Acting on the complaint, the police registered an FIR under Section 377 (Unnatural Offences), 506 (Criminal Intimidation) of the IPC, and Section 6 of the POCSO Act.

After hearing the case, the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Salender Singh on Tuesday sentenced the convict to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 75,000.

In another incident, an FIR was registered under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the POCSO Act 2012, and Sections 65(1) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against a 25-year-old youth for allegedly raping a 13-year-old neighbour. The victim is a student of Class IX.

According to the complaint filed by the victim’s father, the accused lured the minor to his place on some pretext on January 20 and sexually assaulted her. The girl had remained visibly distressed for some days following the ordeal. When questioned by her parents, she recounted the assault and revealed that the accused had threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to anyone. Thereafter, a police complaint was filed.

Meanwhile, Satish Kaushik, Chairman of the District Child Welfare Committee, said the victim was on Tuesday provided counselling at the committee’s office.
