Tension prevailed in Nissing on Sunday after villagers, relatives and family members of Suraj (25), who was murdered on Saturday in Gondar village, blocked the Karnal-Kaithal state highway, demanding the arrest of all persons involved in his murder. They parked tractors on the road and raised slogans against police inaction. However, after assurance from Assandh DSP Gorakhpal Rana that all the accused would be arrested at the earliest, they lifted the blockade.

On Saturday late evening, three assailants riding a bike shot him near a shop in the village. He died on the spot. The family alleged that the attack was the result of an old rivalry. They named five persons and alleged that these individuals, along with their associates, conspired and executed the killing before fleeing.

Superintendent of Police Narender Bijarniya, along with forensic experts, visited the crime scene on Saturday evening and assured the family of justice.

On Sunday, family members, relatives and villagers refused to cremate the body. They blocked roads in Nissing. “We will not cremate Suraj until arrests are made,” said one of the family members.

DSP Gorakhpal Rana reached the spot to pacify the family. The blockade was lifted only after assurances from the police. Due to the jam, commuters faced a lot of difficulties, and police had to divert traffic through alternative routes.

“One accused has surrendered, and efforts are being made to arrest the others,” said DSP Rana.
