The body of Shivam Upadhyay (23), who allegedly fell into the seasonal Tangri river here on Monday, was recovered from the river on Tuesday.

The body was recovered by relatives of the deceased after the water receded in the river.

Shivam’s cousin Lovekush said that they had been searching for Shivam and then someone informed them that a body had been found stuck in bushes between Khojkipur and Kardhan villages. When they reached there, they found that it was Shivam’s body, he said.

Shivam, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was living in New Tagore Garden here for the past two years. He worked as a gardener.

Shivam’s relatives said that he fell into the river while observing the flow of water. But, there were rumours that he along with two youths was swimming in the river and he was swept away.

After the post-mortem at Civil Hospital, his body was taken to UP for cremation.
