As political battle in the state’s biggest Assembly segment, Badshahpur, gets intense, both the BJP and Congress leaders are out using all campaign techniques.

BJP’s veteran and former minister Rao Narbir and Congress’ debutant youth leader Vardhan Yadav have released their election anthems to draw voters.

While Vardhan has opted for two songs composed by locals artists to woo rural and urban voters separately, Narbir, out to grab attention, has got his anthem worded on the tune of Haryanavi dancer Sapna Chowdhary’s popular number “Teri aankhya ka yo kajal”. Vardhan has scored brownie points for opting for rap for urban voters.

In his first song, which targets senior citizens and the segment’s rural population, Vardhan has projected himself not a neta, but “Badhshpur ka beta and chhora” who would be available 24/7 to all residents. His second song, “Haryana ki umang”, targets youth voters with a catchy pop tune and English rap.

“Be it youth or elders, the best way to communicate with the voters is through social media and catchy songs. Badshahpur is a unique constituency, probably most different in the entire state. We have high-rises and posh areas along with villages that are still struggling to match with the Millennium City. The voter base is different and needs a leader who can fit both bills. I will be “Badhshapur ka chhora and beta” for the core senior rural voters, available 24X7, and help them resolve their issues. I am also one of the youths of Haryana and share the aspirations and vision of my urban voters and youngsters so that they have a better tomorrow,” said Yadav while speaking to The Tribune.

Rao Narbir, meanwhile, has stuck to politicising his veteran image, but with a twist of calling himself a “Khalis Neta” who will bring back the BJP wave. The song talks about his achievements while being a minister from 2014 to 2019. Narbir caught national attention by accepting the civic crises in Gurugram during an interaction with The Tribune and now claims that his truthfulness is his true quality.

“I call spade a spade and am here not to befool anybody. The Millenium City needs a true and practical leader. It is in a mess and in critical situation. I don’t promise I will make it Singapore, but will give you a well-managed clean city that you can be proud of. Coalition with the JJP cost us our repute and,” says Narbir.

The Badshahpur Assembly segment has over five lakh votes.
