Member of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis Sadanand Maharaj today directed the district administration to ensure that sanitation workers availed the benefits of welfare schemes.

He said the workers deployed in municipal committees, nagar panchayats, hospitals and schools should be paid their wages regularly and a medical examination of the workers along with their family members should be conducted at least thrice every year.

Also, changing rooms should be made available for women at the workplace.

The officials concerned were directed to ensure that the sanitation workers, who were enrolled on an outsource basis, should be paid either online or through cheques; vacant posts in government establishments be filled and sought information regarding the problems of the workers.

Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar assured that the district administration was committed towards uplifiting the workers.

The programmes and policies framed by Himachal Pradesh and Union government for the welfare of the workers were being made available at the grassroots level.
