‘Mohare’, a theatrical drama performed by students of Government College, Chora Maidan, Shimla, at the 48th HP University Youth Festival organised at Gautam Group of Colleges mesmerised audience here today.
Significantly, through the play an attempt was made to hit untouchability prevalent in several societies in Himachal Pradesh. The play was written by prominent play writer Dev Kanya Thakur whose short film ‘No Woman’s Land’ was appreciated. The four-day youth festival was inaugurated by former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal. Speaking on the occasion, he said that theatre helped in preserving and depicting rich cultural heritage of region. He said that government was encouraging local talent at each level and this competition would help in refining and redefining personalities of artists.
Students of Government College Karsog enacted a play Oedipus Rex written by Sophocles, a Greek writer. The play was directed by Kulbhushan Sharma and Sohan Kapoor.
Another presentation was from Government College Mandi. Students enacted a play Madhavi written by Bheesham Sahani. The play was based on the life of a woman who sacrificed her youth for a self-centred man. The play was directed by Inder Raj Indu.
As many as 24 colleges participated in the youth festival. Dr Rajneesh Gautam, Managing Director, Gautam Group of Colleges, appreciated the facilities and support for all the guests.
