100 scholars take part in seminar on human rights

As many as 100 scholars participated in a national seminar-cum-colloquium on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, which was organised by the Department of Public Administration of Himachal Pradesh University, in collaboration with the American Society of Public Administration and International Political Science Association RC 48.

The seminar was inaugurated by HPU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Rajinder Verma. “In order to protect the future we need to protect human rights in the present,” he said.

Dean of Studies BK Shivram, in his keynote address, emphasised the role of academicians in protecting human rights. He said academicians were the torchbearers of protecting human rights.

In her speech Rupali Thakur, Director, Himachal Pradesh Institute of Public Administration (HIPA), talked about gender inequality.

Ranjana Chauhan, DIG (Law and Order), spoke about the right to life. Dr T Gopinath, Faculty, Rajiv Gandhi National Institution for Youth Development (RGNIYD), Chandigarh, spoke about the role of the youth in promoting human rights. Lt Col Sanjeev Punia, Legal Officer, Armed Forces Tribunal, Lucknow, spoke about human rights and its challenges.
