Shimla, October 10

C Paulrasu, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Himachal Pradesh, has said that voters can produce Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) or 11 alternative photo documents to exercise their franchise in the upcoming byelections of Mandi Parliamentary Constituency and Fatehpur, Arki and Jubbal-Kotkhai Assembly Constituencies.

However, overseas electors would be identified on the basis of their original passport only and no other identity document would be acceptable in the polling station.

In case voters are unable to present their voter card, they can present alternative photo IDs, including Aadhar card, MNREGA job card, passbook with photograph issued by bank or post office, Health Insurance Smart Card issued under the scheme of Ministry of Labour, driving license, pan card or smart card issued under National Population Register (NPR).

The other documents considered valid include passport, pension document with photograph, Service Identity Cards with photograph issued to employees by the Centre, state government, PSUs or public limited companies and official identity cards issued to MPs, MLAs and MLCs.

Clerical errors or spelling mistakes would be ignored in the EPIC, provided the identity of electoral is established. In case the identity is unable to be established on account of mismatch of photograph, the voter can produce one of the alternative photo documents.
