15 specially-abled children, 14 senior citizens leave on exposure trip to Amritsar from Bilaspur
Group would witness beating retreat at Wagah border and visit Golden Temple
Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar flagged off an exposure trip for specially-abled children and senior citizens from Bilaspur on Saturday. The Bilaspur district administration is organising the trip under the Intergenerational Harmony Programme in collaboration with the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment and the District Welfare Office.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the group would visit places in Amritsar, including Wagah border, Golden Temple and Jallianwala Bagh. He added that the group included inmates of old age home ‘Apna Ghar’ in Deoli village and specially-abled children’s institute ‘Naya Savera’ in Naswal, Ghumarwin subdivision.
He said that 14 senior citizens and seven staff members of the Apna Ghar and a Day-Care Centre and 15 specially-abled children and six staff members of ‘Naya Savera’ were taking part in the tour. The group would witness the Beating Retreat Parade at the Wagah Border on Saturday and the Amritsar district administration would make seating arrangements. The group would stay for a night in Amritsar and visit the Golden Temple and Jallianwala Bagh tomorrow before leaving for Bilaspur.
The Deputy Commissioner said that specially-abled children and senior citizens were an extremely important and respected part of society. They deserved equal opportunities, respect and participation like other citizens. The district administration wanted to integrate these groups into the mainstream through such programmes, providing them new experiences, he added.
