Chamba, August 8

A 15-year-old boy was buried alive under debris and two others were injured after cloudbursts hit at least two villages in Churah and Salooni sub-divisions of Chamba district in Himachal late last night.

The deceased has been identified as Vijay Kumar (15) of Bhadoga village in Salooni. Three head of cattle were washed away in the gushing waters of Daand nullah while about 10 vehicles parked in the village were damaged. At least 10 link roads have been blocked in the two sub-divisions following landslides.

At Bhadoga village, muck entered six houses, forcing the local authorities to shift the residents to a safer place. A crucial bridge connecting the village to the mainland was also damaged, said an official.

Chamba Deputy Commissioner DC Rana said an immediate relief of Rs 25,000 had been provided to the family of the deceased.
