17% hike in police emergencies this year: Study

An increase of 17 per cent has been registered in police emergencies so far as compared to the last year, with four districts of Kangra, Solan, Shimla and Mandi reporting 61 per cent cases.

A study conducted by the GVK EMRI, which runs the 108 National Ambulance Services, revealed that the quantum of police emergencies has been registering an increase since 2014-2015, when 2,631 cases were reported. The figure last year was 3,830 while this year it has already touched 2,624.

In Kangra, one of the largest districts, 4,600 emergency cases have been reported so far, followed by Solan 4,563, Shimla 4,116 and Mandi 3,121 cases. The study, spanning seven years 10 months, has taken into consideration all cases reported ever since the inception of the GVK EMRI.

In case of fire emergencies, Solan district topped the state with 1,385 cases, followed by Kangra 1,189. Shimla has received 1,007 cases and Una 922 so far.

According to the study, summer months reported the maximum number of fire cases, including forest fire. April, May and June together contributed 65 per cent of such cases in the state.

Mehul Sukumar, state head of GVK EMRI, said they were committed to saving precious lives.
