A team of the State Tax and Excise Department today seized 309 cartons of countrymade liquor from a truck and arrested two persons in this connection.
According to Preet Pal Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Nurpur revenue district, the truck (HP 08A 5352) that was intercepted at Bodh near Nurpur was carrying liquor without any valid document or permit.
He said the market price of the seized liquor was around Rs 9 lakh. The liquor was loaded in Una for supply to Gangath in the Nurpur police district, he added. Singh said the accused, along with the seized liquor and the truck, had been handed over to the local police. Those arrested had been identified as truck driver Rajesh, a resident of Chopal in Shimla district, and Aftab of Nerva in Shimla district.
Singh said the department had been receiving complaints of liquor being transported illegally to the Nurpur area from outside. On a tip-off, the Excise Department had intercepted the truck carrying the countrymade liquor.
