24-year-old jawan from Himachal's Sirmaur martyred in Baramulla encounter

A 24-year-old jawan from Thakur Gvana village in Renukaji area of Sirmaur district was martyed at Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir in a terrorist attack around 10:30 pm on Monday.

The martyr, Prashant Thakur, had joined the Army in  September 2014 at the age of 18. He is survived by his father Surjan Singh, mother Rekha Devi and brother Vishal.

Sirmaur Deputy Commissioner Dr RK Pruthi said as per information from Army, firing was still underway at the encounter site in Pulwama and the martyr's body was yet to be retrieved. The body was expected to reach his native village by Wednesday evening, he said.

Thakur was deployed with 29 RR. A pall of gloom descended at his native village as the news of his martyrdom spread.
