To reduce traffic jams in Shimla, the Shimla district police have deployed an additional 30 police personnel at 15 key locations in the town. These police personnel have been assigned to ensure smooth traffic movement, especially during peak hours.
The locations include Totu Chowk, Sankat Mochan, Ghora Hospital, the Lift, Bemloe, near St Edwards School, near High Court, near Hotel Marina, near Rahat Hotel, Talland, near Loreto Convent Tara Hall, Lakkar Bazaar bus stand, Auckland Tunnel, near Gopal Mandir at Boileauganj, and Summerhill Chowk.
Highlighting the steps that have been taken to ensure smooth movement of traffic in the town, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shimla, Gaurav Singh, said, “There are about 180 sanctioned posts of traffic police personnel in the town; however, only 130 police personnel were providing services. The district police have now enhanced this number by deploying an additional 35 police personnel at various key locations of the town. While 15 personnel were deployed across the town earlier this month, 30 more personnel have been deployed today, thus taking the total number of traffic police personnel to 181.”
He said that the additional police force will ensure effective traffic management in the town, helping in the smooth movement of traffic in major bottlenecks.
“These police personnel will also ensure better monitoring of traffic, especially during peak hours, and prompt action in case of road accidents. Special attention will be given to ensure uninterrupted traffic movement during office and school hours, during peak tourist seasons and weekend rush, and in major market and commercial areas. A strict vigil will also be ensured to check unauthorized roadside parkings as well as encroachments,” he said.
