In an event aimed at addressing youth unemployment, the Minister of Industries, Parliamentary Affairs, Labour, Employment and Foreign Planning Harshwardhan Chauhan presided over a youth employment fair at Government Senior Secondary School, Kaffota, in Sirmaur. This initiative saw the participation of 47 companies from Paonta Sahib, Kala Amb, Baddi and Nalagarh, providing employment opportunities to 389 young individuals.

During his address, the minister emphasised the government’s ongoing efforts to create job opportunities for the youth. He highlighted that various employment fairs, along with campus interviews organised by the Employment Department, had helped young people find jobs according to their skills. So far, six employment fairs and 590 campus interviews have been conducted, securing jobs for over 10,543 youths in the private sector across the state, he said.

In a significant development on August 31, the state government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Dubai-based EFS Facility Services Group Limited, facilitating overseas employment for the state’s unemployed youth. During the first phase of this initiative, five applicants received appointment letters in the presence of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

The minister also elaborated on the Rajiv Gandhi Self-Employment Startup Scheme-2023, which aims to promote self-employment and entrepreneurship in the green sector. Through this scheme, eligible applicants are being provided subsidies for purchasing e-taxis, offering young entrepreneurs a platform to establish green projects and build sustainable careers.

The Employment Department’s online portal (EEMIS) is now offering a range of services, including job registrations and renewals. This portal is helping both job-seekers and private sector employers by providing a common platform for recruitment. So far, 596 private employers have registered, allowing them to recruit candidates as per their requirements.

Efforts are also being made by the Labour, Employment and Foreign Planning Department to provide institutional vocational guidance to the students in schools and colleges. Through this initiative, 68,275 youths have benefitted from the career guidance camps, offering insights on employment, self-employment and entrepreneurship from industry experts.

The minister urged the youth to adapt their skills in line with technological advancements to thrive in today’s competitive environment. He called on companies attending the fair to recognise talent and offer opportunities to contribute to their growth, ensuring a better future for all.

The minister also distributed appointment letters to the successful candidates at the event. Sirmaur’s Marketing Committee Chairman Sita Ram Sharma, Kaffota SDM Rajesh Verma, Executive GM DIC Rachit, District Employment Officer Jagdish Kumar, District Labour Officer Sohan Lal Jalota, former DDC Chairman Jagat Singh Pundir, Congress Committee District General Secretary Mastram Parashar, Youth Congress General Secretary Shashi Kapoor and several other officials and dignitaries were present on the occasion.

This employment fair marks another milestone in the government’s ongoing commitment to enhancing job opportunities for the youth of Himachal Pradesh, paving the way for a brighter and prosperous future.
