Hamirpur, October 10

As many as 40 persons fell ill due to food poisoning at Katiyara village in Sarakar gram panchayat, near here, today. They reportedly had lunch at a community gathering organised on the occasion of ‘Rasam Uthala’ organised by local resident Raj Kumar on the 10th day of his mother’s demise.

Most of the persons were admitted to the Community Health Centre at Tauni Devi while those having taken seriously ill were shifted to the medical college here.

Renu Sharma, DSP, said teams of police and Health departments were rushed to the spot. Dr RK Agnihotri, Medical Officer, said food samples were taken for testing. He added that 25 persons were admitted to the health centre at Tauni Devi and 15 to the local hospital. — OC
