The Dehra district police have detained six habitual drug peddlers under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act, 1988. The accused have been sent to the District Jail in Dharamshala.
The action was taken after detention orders were obtained from the competent authority under Section 3(1) of the Act. The orders were issued on the basis of detailed dossiers prepared by the district police and submitted to the Secretary (Home-cum-Detention Authority), Shimla.
After obtaining detention orders for three months, the police constituted special teams and conducted raids at various locations, hideouts and houses to apprehend the accused.
SP Dehra Mayank Chaudhary said the main detainee had been identified as Akashdeep Singh of Khabli village. Two cases under the NDPS Act had earlier been registered against him by the Dehra and Nurpur police in January 2025 and February 2023 respectively. He was detained from McLeod Ganj.
“Apart from him, five other habitual offenders identified as Raj Kumar of Gurnawar village, Sharif Mohammad of Salihar village, Pankaj Kumar of Sihorpai village, Ashok Kumar of Kuhna village and Avinash Kumar of Sauntdayal village have been sent to the District Jail, Dharamshala, for three months,” he said.
The SP added that the district police would also initiate financial investigations against these habitual drug peddlers, who had allegedly resumed drug trafficking after securing bail from courts.
