Marking the ceremonial beginning, the DC offered prayers at the revered Mamleshwar Mahadev Temple and performed traditional rituals, including bull worship, symbolising the cultural significance of the fair. A grand religious procession (shobha yatra) was also taken out from the temple to the fair ground, led by local deities and attended by hundreds of devotees and residents.

Following the inauguration, the chief guest visited various departmental exhibitions set up at the venue, showcasing government initiatives and local development efforts.

Addressing the gathering, the DC emphasised that fairs were an integral part of the rich cultural heritage of Himachal Pradesh. He stated that preserving such traditions was a collective responsibility to ensure that future generations stay connected to their roots. He further noted that fairs across Mandi district and the state were deeply rooted in dev (deity) culture and played a vital role in fostering social unity.

Highlighting this year’s theme, “Chitta Mukt Karsog, Mandi (Himachal),” he praised the fair committee and local administration for promoting awareness against drug abuse. He added that sports competitions and cultural activities organised during the fair would help engage youth in positive pursuits and steer them away from substance abuse.

The DC also spoke about various welfare schemes being implemented by the state government, aimed at improving the quality of life of citizens. He lauded the initiative of organising a livestock exhibition during the fair, which encouraged farmers and cattle rearers to adopt better breeds, improve milk quality and explore dairy farming as a sustainable livelihood. Workshops related to dairy production are also being conducted to strengthen the rural economy.

In addition, he highlighted the establishment of a modern library at the Mini Secretariat building in Karsog, equipped with books and e-library facilities to support students and encourage academic growth among the youth.

On the occasion, Karsog SDM and Mela Committee chairman Gaurav Mahajan honoured the chief guest with a traditional shawl, cap and memento.

The inaugural ceremony also featured vibrant cultural performances, adding colour and festivity to the event.

Prominent dignitaries present included Dr Keval Sharma, former block Congress president Hari Om Sharma, DSP Chand Kishor, tehsildar Prithi Chand, along with representatives of various institutions, department heads, senior officials and other distinguished guests.
